The people behind your resolution

Stephen B. Ruben
MANAGING DIRECTOR · CERTIFIED FAMILY LAW SPECIALIST
Steve is the only attorney in the Bay Area offering Early Neutral Evaluation — providing clients with an authoritative, unbiased assessment of their case at the outset, frequently preventing costly litigation before it begins.
With more than 40 years of legal experience, Steve has served for over 20 years as Senior Settlement Master and Judge Pro Tem in the Unified Family Courts in San Francisco and Marin County — a judicial perspective that gives his clients an analytical edge no standard mediator can offer.
He holds a Certified Family Law Specialist designation from the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, and an LLM in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University's Straus Institute — the #1 ranked ADR program in the world.
"With legal wisdom woven over more than 40 years, Steve has dedicated his career to navigating the complexities of family law — adeptly managing intricate cases involving high-net-worth divorces, financial issues, and the often turbulent waters of spousal and child support and custody disputes."

Kacey Dunton
ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
Kasey Dunton has practiced exclusively family law since 2016, both with firms and as a sole practitioner. He has been a practicing attorney for 15 years and has exclusively practiced family law for over 10 years.
Kasey handles a variety of family law issues, including custody and visitation, division of both low- and high-asset property portfolios, child and spousal support orders and modifications, pre-marital and post-marital agreements, guardianships, and appeals.
Kasey was born and raised in northeast Ohio. After graduating from the George Washington University at age 19, he attended the University of the District of Columbia School of Law. While there, he served as a student-attorney in the school’s nationally ranked legal clinic, which helped low-income families access the family law system.
After becoming an attorney in Maryland and the District of Columbia, he spent 5 years representing employees who had faced workplace discrimination. These two experiences helped him realize that, at its best, the legal profession can help people who otherwise feel as though they are losing the life they envisioned for themselves.
In 2016, seeking a change in scenery, Kasey moved to the Bay Area and returned to his roots in family law. Kasey works with clients to help them decide what the next phase of their lives will look like. Often, this means helping clients and their former partners reach agreements that everyone can accept. By tailoring creative solutions to each family, families can regain more control over the outcome of the case.
However, when mediation fails or is simply not right for the client’s needs, Kasey is not afraid to take the matter to court. He has litigated more than a dozen trials, half of them as first chair. He has presented winning arguments before California’s Fifth and Sixth Courts of Appeal and continues to advance novel legal arguments to help his clients obtain everything the law allows.
Kasey is an adjunct professor at Evergreen Community College in the Paralegal Studies program.
When not in court, you can find Kasey singing with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (for which he is also a costumer), knitting sweaters for family members who still live in the Midwest and aren’t blessed with the Bay Area’s mild weather, and traveling the world with his partner of over 15 years.
